Zhangjiakou Power Plant is located in Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. The plant started construction in 1988 and currently owns 8 generating units with installed capacity of 300MW each. Thus, the total installed capacity of Zhangjiakou Power Plant reaches 2400 MW which makes it the largest coal-fired power plant in North China. Unit 1 to Unit 4 of Phase I were completed and put into operation in September 1995. Construction of Phase II was commenced in July, 1997 and Unit 5, Unit 6 and Unit 7 were put into operation in 1999 and 2000, respectively . Unit 8, the last unit of Zhangjiakou Power Plant was put into commercial operation in Septermber 2001.
Zhangjiakou Power Plant is the backbone coal fired power plant in the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Power Grid. Power generated by Zhangjiakou Power Plant is supplied to the Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan Power Grid. via three 500kV and three 220kV transmission lines.
